Initially, it was the objects that drew me in.

A red, rusty tricycle sitting on the boardwalk, a pair of ice skates dangling from the railing of a staircase, a pink cotton dress hanging neatly in a bedroom closet. Each artifact serves as a small clue about the people who once resided there.

The objects also tell me a bit about the visitors who stop by and rearrange things. Between the summer of 2011 and the winter of 2013, a vacuum cleaner traveled from the altar of the chapel to a snow pile outside the front door. On another visit, a collection of books that I’d seen strewn on the floor of the superintendent’s house were stacked neatly on the shelves.

I like capturing each object for it’s antiquated charm and for the small story it tells.
